Although its appearance was pretty PET like, its internal design was rather different: a Z80 CPU instead of a 6502, no Basic in ROM, only a 2 KB monitor and a mechanical keyboard, better than the first Pet keyboard, but less convenient than the new version. The MZ-80K was launched in various European countries in late 1979. Requirements. Prior programming experience is essential. If you've done some coding in a high-level language like PHP or Java, that's OK, but really you need some knowledge of a lower-level language like C, especially on the subject of memory and pointers.

It was vastly better board: CAD designed while the previous 6502 was hand-drawn, and the 6809 obviously gave access to professional operating systems Flex and OS/9. The specification for the BBC Micro was being drawn up, and my understanding was that the discussions were between Best (68000 or whatever) and Current (Z80/6502), with not much credence for Good (6809). The MOS 6502 is an 8-bit microprocessor with a 16-bit address bus, designed by Chuck Peddle in 1975. Along with the Zilog Z80 it sparked a series of computer projects that would eventually result in the home computer revolution of the 1980s.

As Roger Amidon himself explained it to me in Aug 2012 (over lunch so I may not have this completely correct): When the Z80 was in development, it was not clear what Zilog would offer as a set of "mnemonics" or Z80 code instruction "names". Implemented most PPU behavior differences for VS System bootlegs. Added the 2c04 clone's delayed sprite rendering (video\ppu2c0x.cpp). . Working sound and improved graphics in clones 'Vs. Notice that the first Amstrad CPC prototype, called "Arnold", which gave the name ROLAND (Arnold acronym) to several CPC games, was built around a 6502 processor and only later the CPU was changed to a Z80. A few months later, the CPC series would be completed with a computer which offered a built-in floppy disk unit: the CPC 664.

cycle, while the Z80 usualy takes four. That's why most Z80 computers are 4 Mhz while most 6502, 6800, & 6809 computers run around 1Mhz. Oct 24, 2015 · 16×2 LCD is named so because it has 16 Columns and 2 Rows. There are a lot of combinations available like, 8×1, 8×2, 10×2, 16×1, etc. But the most used one is the 16*2 LCD, so explained here with pinout and description. Aug 09, 2017 · Even though the Microsoft equivalent for the Apple II is much more common, it tends to be more valuable than the Commodore 64 Z80 cartridge. There are two possible reasons for that. It’s much more useful, for one. Second, it’s much more likely that someone remembers actually using one, rather than it just being an interesting curiosity.

  7. This actually wasn't much of a problem back during the hey-day of these chips: the z80's design allowed it to be clocked faster than the 6502 so, for example, the Sinclair ZX machines' Z80 CPUs ran at 3.25 MHz while the C64's 6502 ran at 1 MHz. The faster Z80 clock offset the lower cycle efficiency, leaving the machines on roughly equal footing ...
  8. Oct 05, 2014 · The 6502 ran roughly in 2 cycles per instruction (average) while the Z80 took about 3 average M-cycles (3~6 T-cycles per M-cycle) per instruction. 11. Feb 10, 2015 · The Z80/6502 comparison is more interesting, but at least in the home computer arena the Z80 was clocked typically 3-4X as fast as the 6502 in contemporary systems (presumably due to the RAM constraints Stef mentioned). My fastest Z80 implementation of the little 6502 code sample is 225 cycles and a perhaps more realistic one is 264.

  22. The fact that the 6502 was pipelined meant that it was significantly faster than it should have been as an 8-bit register-based processor at a slower clock rate than the Z80 (2 MHz vs. 3.5 MHZ, IIRC) was only one of the reasons. Looking purely at the cpu, the 6502 was fast for some things and slow for others.
  25. Clock speeds ranged from the original Z-80 2.5MHz to the Z80-H (later called Z80-C) at 8MHz, and later a CMOS version at 10MHz. Like many processors (including the 8085), the Z-80 featured many undocumented instructions. In some cases, they were a by-product of early designs (which did not trap invalid op codes, but tried to interpret them as ...

  16. The 6502 had no multiply or divide instructions. And, of course, no floating point. There was a BCD (Binary Coded Decimal) mode but this was disabled in the NES version of the chip—possibly due to patent concerns. The 6502 had a 256-byte stack with no overflow detection. The 6502 had 151 opcodes (of a possible 256).
  17. I don't have an opinion re: 6502 vs. 8080/Z80. The reason I picked my first PCs (Poly88, TRS80, Otrona Attache), which just happened to use the Intel/Zilog-family processors, was for the screen resolution (64 char/line vs. 40 char/line for the color computers).

The Z80 has higher code density making unrolling things more practical in tight memory situations, but the 6502 lets you throw down tables for little penalty.
  21. The Z80 is an excellent choice for a ‘home-brew’ computer: single 5v supply, all the control/state inputs/outputs you’d need to distinguish instruction from data accesses, separate IO addressing, great interrupt options and even dynamic memory refresh capabilities. The modular design approach adopted in the RC2014 design is well delivered.
